The castle
An imposing fortified castle, one of the last buildings in the Var region dating from the Middle Ages...
The Château de Taurenne is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and one of the last remaining medieval buildings in the Var region. Its origins date back to around the 12th century. Built on a promontory, it overlooks the southern part of the property, which is covered in garrigue scrubland and woodlands of pine and oak trees. This imposing fortified castle, flanked by four crenellated round towers, once belonged to Baron Isnard.
Taurenne can be considered one of the most curious of the Var castles...
However, little written information exists about the Taurenne estate. The "Petit Var" newspaper, in its August 9, 1931 edition, is one of the few documents that describes it in any significant way: "In the heart of a pine forest stands the Château de Taurenne, property of an old Toulon family, the Gérard family." Indeed, the Gérard family had taken possession of it at the end of the 19th century and kept it until around 1950.
